Led by advocates for hormone therapy and patient-centered care, our team blends science with sincerity. We specialize in personalized treatment for women and men navigating hormonal shifts - including estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid, and just as important, nutrient optimization. Our Story

Balance started by coincidence, curiosity, coffee chats about gentle giants (specifically, Newfoundlands and Great Pyrenees)....and a desire to help people feel good in their own skin. We believe hormone care should be personal, precise, and (dare we say?) actually fun. We’re hormone nerds with a passion for precision - we're obsessed with Balance - we live it, breathe it, and at least one of us doodles hormone pathways for fun. This isn’t work - it’s our fave topic, our side hobby, and what lights us up every day (besides our giants).

FAQ's

Q: Do you offer hormone management for transgender individuals?
A: While we deeply believe in personalized, affirming care for everyone, we currently do not offer hormone therapy specifically for transgender individuals. We hope to expand our services in the future to be more inclusive of all gender-affirming care needs - planning is underway.

Q: What states do you offer services in?

A: At this time, we proudly provide services exclusively in Minnesota. If you're located in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, we've got you covered! We're always exploring ways to expand - so stay tuned.

Q: Do you have a physical location, or is everything virtual?
A: We offer the best of both worlds. Our care model is hybrid—meaning you can connect with us through telehealth from the comfort of your home, or visit us in person at our Plymouth, Minnesota location. Whether you prefer virtual convenience or face-to-face connection, we’re here to meet you where you are (literally and figuratively)

Q: Do you take insurance?
A: We’re a cash-based practice and are not contracted with insurance providers. That said, we’ve got your back - we accept most HSA and FSA cards for payment and can provide a detailed superbill after your visit, which you can submit to your insurance for out-of-network benefits, if you have that. It’s our way of giving you flexibility while keeping care personalized and streamlined.

Q: I get that.  You're cash-based and not contracted with insurance carriers.  Will my insurance reimburse me if I submit a superbill?

A: Maybe. Many of our patients receive partial reimbursement when they submit a superbill — especially those with plans that include out‑of‑network (OON) benefits. Every plan is different, but here’s what you can expect:

If your plan includes OON benefits, your insurance may reimburse you for a portion of your visit after you meet your out‑of‑network deductible. Once that deductible is met, many plans reimburse 40–80% of the insurer‑allowed amount (not the clinic’s cash price).

What we provide: After each visit, we can give you a complete superbill with all the information your insurance company needs to process your claim. You simply upload it through your insurance portal or mail it in. Most insurance companies process superbills within 2–4 weeks.

Insurance may not reimburse if:

  • Your plan does not include out‑of‑network benefits
  • You haven’t met your out‑of‑network deductible
  • The service isn’t covered under your plan
  • The claim is missing required information
  • The claim is submitted after the plan’s filing deadline

What we recommend:

If reimbursement is important to you, we encourage you to call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask:

  • “Do I have out‑of‑network benefits?”
  • “What is my out‑of‑network deductible?”
  • “What percentage do you reimburse after I meet it?”
  • “Where do I submit a superbill?”

We’re happy to support you with clean, complete documentation — and many patients do receive partial reimbursement once their plan’s requirements are met.

Q: What about labs?  Can I use my insurance for those?

A: Yes.  We can give you a lab order that you can use at any lab of your choosing.  Keep in mind that while most insurance plans cover medically necessary tests, what you pay depends heavily on your plan design, especially if you have a high-deductible plan.  Under these plans, your cost can vary greatly - we have seen charges of several hundred dollars to over $1000 or more in some cases until the decuctible is met.  Because of this, some patients decide to use direct-pay pricing which is typically lower and more predictable than going through insurance.  This can be especially helpful if:

  • You have a high decuctible and haven't met it yet
  • You want to avoid surprise fees or out-of-network charges
  • You prefer transparent, upfront pricing
  • You're comparing costs and want the most up-front pricing.

Q: I have a history of breast cancer. Can I still receive hormone therapy?

A: Hormone therapy may not be suitable for everyone with a history of breast cancer. For some, it can be considered as part of a carefully managed treatment plan - while for others, it may not be recommended. We take these decisions seriously and on a case-by-case basis, always prioritizing your safety and long-term wellbeing. If you have a personal history of breast cancer, please reach out to us before booking your appointment so we can help determine the best path forward for you.

Q: Can you be my gynecologist?

A: No. We do not serve as your gynecologist or replace the care of an OB/GYN.
We can, however, partner with your gynecologist by offering specialty support for midlife health, hormones, and symptom‑specific concerns when they arise

Q: Can you be my primary care provider (PCP)?
A: No. We are not a primary care provider and cannot take the place of a clinician who manages your full medical history, preventive care, and chronic conditions. When the need arises, we will work collaboratively with your PCP to ensure your care remains coordinated and comprehensive.

Q: If you’re not my GYN or PCP, what exactly do you do?
A: We provide specialty care focused on midlife health, hormones, and symptom‑driven support. Think of us as an expert partner who helps you navigate complex symptoms, treatment options, and evidence‑based strategies - while your GYN and PCP continue to oversee your routine and whole‑person care.

Q: Do I still need a gynecologist and a PCP?

A: Yes. Your GYN and PCP are essential for:

  • Routine exams and screenings
  • Diagnostic evaluations
  • Chronic condition management
  • Preventive care

Our role is to complement—not replace—them.

Q: How do you coordinate with my other providers?
A: With your permission, we can:
• Share visit summaries
• Provide treatment recommendations
• Communicate about labs or imaging
• Support care planning around hormones and midlife health
We believe care works best when everyone is connected.

Q: What if I don’t currently have a GYN or PCP?
A: We can help you understand what type of clinician you may need and what to look for, but you’ll still need to establish care with a primary provider for full medical oversight.
